December 20

Everyone has a “number one” in their lives that they cherish or hold dear above all else. It could be a person (like a significant other), a thing (like your business or career), an event (like winning an award) or an experience (like an amazing vacation). Everything special in life, whether a person, thing, event, or experience, is temporary. Every single one of those can be replaced. Whatever we place in the number one position, has an incredible impact on who we are, our priorities and the kind of life we live. When we prioritise the wrong things, we make the wrong decisions, which are followed by terrible outcomes.

In the Bible, Jesus, who is God, teaches His disciples to first and foremost love God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength, and to love others like we love ourselves. According to Jesus, love for God and for others ought to be the number one for those who believe in Him. When Jesus is number one in our lives, His Spirit helps us to give the right priority and have the right perspective on every aspect of life. God promises to bless and provide for all who put Jesus in the number one spot. It doesn’t mean everything will be awesome; rather, in all things and at all times, He promises to be by our side. God’s people have the privilege of being in constant communion with Him through prayer, even as the Spirit of Jesus strengthens us to rejoice always and give thanks!

This Christmas, I pray the Spirit of Jesus will help you magnify Jesus in your soul and that you will learn to rejoice in Him as your Saviour and Lord.
